We left at 7:20. Once again, there was a Blue Heron on Lil Gortes. At Preston, it took a while but finally 4 raccoons came out for dinner. At the opposite end of Preston, we saw Jerry and the Pirate Ship. There has been a few Heron and lots of swallows. Mike and the Puppies all had a good time at the dam. Tonight, there were 11 Egrets across for the dam docks! 😮 The sunset was beautiful, it was red! Back at Preston, 6 raccoons were waiting for the second food drop. We docked at 9:05 and had a campfire.

We headed out at 7:20, its cooler and a bit overcast. We saw a Blue Heron on Lil Gortes and a Bald Eagle in by the RR Bridge. At Preston, only one raccoon came out to eat but it probably had something to do with the dogs barking cuz of a boat passing by! Lots of ducks flying and a few Blue heron, we also saw Dave P by the 281 bridge and a pontoon by the beginning of the ski course. There were 7 Egrets tonight in the tree across from the dam docks. The puppies all got in a good run and swim! Just as the puppies were coming back to the boat, an Eagle flew by the docks! Boy did they have fun barking at it!! Tim was heading for the dam docks to pull his boat out. Back at Preston, we had 8 furry ones come out to eat and had a Red Tailed Hawk sit in the tree next to the food drop. We got home and docked at 9:10.
Mike added another 5 gals of gas before we shoved off at 7:00 with KFC on board for dinner. Saw a few Kingfishers out on the Auglaize and a Bald Eagle across from Mike’s! Dropped the food bag and nobody. The river is still and quiet. There were 5 Egrets in the tree across from the dam. The puppies had a good run and swim, Sam has a sore leg. Gorgeous sunset! We’ve had the river to ourselves! There were 3 Cormorants in a tree close to the big dead tree. We saw a lot of Heron and Nighthawks tonight. Behind Preston, we saw 4 more Cormorants and 7 cooners came out for the second bag. We went home the long way around Preston. Docked at 9:10.
We left at 7:30, the water is still up and its cooler tonight. We saw Jeff at Pontiac getting Lefty’s delivered. Paul’s boy and wife were heading home so we waited for them to cross at the point of Preston. We also saw the Pirate ship beached on the opposite side of Preston. We dropped the food bag but nobody came out! Puppies had a good run. No Egrets tonight. Beautiful skies! Back at Preston, the first bag was still there ! 😮 We dropped the second bag anyhow and 5 raccoons came out. While there, 3 Heron kept circling us and making noise! Overall, a quiet night. We docked at 9:10.
Mike Smack and I headed out at 1:50 for Pontiac Park for the classic car show. After our quick look through, we headed up the Maumee to Dave’s before heading to Preston. Once at Preston, Mike softly beach the bow then he and Smack got out and moved the big branch over so we had a better view of our drop zone! Once back aboard, we went up to the 281 b ridge before we turned and headed for home. We docked at 4:00.
Mike put in another 5 gals of gas then he, Smack, Keshia, the puppies and I all shoved off at 7:15. It started sprinkling just as we got to Preston and the food drop. We dropped the food bag and only 1 raccoon came out to eat. We then headed back the way we came, were the sun was shining. By the time we hit the far side of Preston, the rain was gone! Mike, from the ski club, was out with a boat load and a ski boat was out teaching a girl to ski. We saw a few Heron out tonight. Puppies had a good run and swim getting everyone wet for the ride home! Turned out to be a beautiful night. Back at Preston, there were 5 raccoons waiting for supper. We docked at 9:15 and had a fire.
Mike worked on MJ today at the dock. He changed the bilge, cleaned out the dog hair and crud, washed the sides, added some oil, and charged the battery. We shoved off at 7:25. The water is high and lots of BIG debris and some small. Saw Watson’s at the point of Preston. Herons and ducks behind Preston. Only 1 raccoon came out for dinner. We saw a Bald Eagle in the big dead tree. Dave P was out skiing. Saw a few more Heron and 3 Egrets across from the dam. Puppies had a good run and a quick swim. We stopped at the ski club for a quick chat with Dave, Tim, and Lenny. Just as we were pulling away, the Bald Eagle flew over us not even 20 ft above our heads! 😮 A couple of boats were out fishing around Preston. 8 raccoons came out for the second drop. We passed a boat fishing at the RR bridge. We docked at 9:15.
Mike added another 5 gals of gas before we left at 7:10 just as our up river boat neighbor went by. Lots of debris on the Maumee. At Preston, a Bald Eagle was plucking its feathers out in the tree right above the food drop. We had 6 raccoons come out to eat after the Eagle flew off. The water is like glass. A few Heron were out and lots of ducks. The puppies had a long run and swim. There were 2 Egrets flying about near the dam before landing in the trees across from the dam. We saw Tim leaving the ski club to pull his boat out. Back at Preston, there was a hawk in the dead tree beside the drop. We had 10 cooners come for dinner! We didn’t get to watch long because the puppies started barking as Mike drove by in his v-bottom! We docked at 9:15.
After adding 5 gals of gas we headed out at 7:50, a late start. We saw a deer on Lil Gortes and passed Jerry at Riverside. At the food drop, a big branch fell right on our food drop spot but we still had 8 raccoons come for dinner. We saw a few heron and 3 Egrets across from the dam. Puppies all had a good run. As we headed back out, the wind kicked up and it started getting overcast. Lots of Nighthawks out around the dam. Back at Preston, we had 6 raccoons for the second drop. As we headed home, about the library, it started lightening all around us. Boots crawled up into the far bow of the boat! 😮 We docked at 9:20 before the rain hit.
We left at 7:45 and just as we pulled away from the dock, Aaron passed by. Passed 2 v-bottoms across from Mike’s fishing. At Preston, 8 raccoons came running as we pulled up to the food drop. It is another quiet night and the waster is like glass! A Bald Eagle was up in the big dead tree. At the dam, puppies had a quick run while I saw a Green Heron and the two Egrets across from the dam. As we passed the ski club, the Bald Eagle flew passed us going the opposite direction only about 20 feet from the boat!! 😮 We saw 4 raccoons by the big dead tree and back at Preston, we had 13 raccoons come running and waiting for dinner! Lots of Heron out tonight on both rivers. We docked at 9:15.
We left at 7:15 after Mike added another 5 gals of gas. Quiet night out tonight. At Preston, 7 cooners came out for dinner. Lots of Heron everywhere and a few hawks. While Mike ran the puppies, I watched the Egrets flying about acroos from the dam. On the return trip, we saw a Bald Eagle in the big dead tree. Back at Preston. 5 raccoons came out to eat. Docked at 9:05.
We headed out at 5:45 with KFC after Mike put in 5 gals of gas. Passed 3 v-bottoms on the Auglaize and lots of boat activity on the Maumee. Went down to the dam where the puppies got out for a quick run before we headed up the the library. We sat in the shade by the library for 20 mins and ate then headed up the Maumee. Lots of Herons, ducks and a few Egrets. We went up to Dave’s then turned back and headed for Preston. At the first food drop, we had 8 raccoons! The two Egrets are still in the trees across from the dam. Puppies had another longer run and a swim! Beautiful sunset! We saw 2 deer cross in front of the GM water plant. Back at the food drop, 11 furry ones came out to see us and to eat! While there, an owl flew in front of us. All the puppies fell asleep on the boat on the ride home! Docked at 9:20.
No ride the last two nights due to weather. We left tonight at 7:45, just as it finished raining. We passed Rodger and Sue along with Jimmy and his wife in their v-bottoms under the Hopkins St bridge. Some swallows and Martins out and lots of Heron. At first food drop, we had 4 raccoons come out to eat. In the bushes next to the 281 bridge, we saw a deer. A couple of pontoons out by the ski course and John from the ski club with a boat full. There were 2 Egrets in the tree across from the dam. Puppies had a good run. The sky on the way home looked like cotton candy! Back at Preston, there were 13 BIG raccoons waiting at the food drop for dinner. We passed 2 pontoons floating between Preston and Pontiac. Docked at 9:30 and had campfire.
We left at 6:45 for Pontiac Park to pick up a pizza. We saw lots of Blue Heron on the Auglaize and a jet ski from Aaron’s out and about. Puppies got out for a quick snoop as we waited for the pizza then we headed for Preston. A boat was fishing so we putted around and ate our pizza and found Lanz’s house who Mike was just talking to at Pontiac about our boat ( he knew them from the car club). We circled back and dropped the food bag and only one raccoon came out! Lots of Blue Heron out on the Maumee too and saw 2 Egrets across from the dam in the trees. Puppies all had a good run but no swimming due to yucky water! On the way back, we stopped at the ski club and went up to Mike’s and Sam;s house for a short visit. Back at Preston, we had at least 13 furry friends come running from every direction! As we putted home, Dave passed us at Pontiac Park on his way home. We saw 2 deer and a Blue Heron on Lil Gortes before we docked at 9:30.
We left tonight at 7:30. We saw a doe and a fawn at Bill’s We passed Jerry by the Hopkins St bridge and the Pirate Ship b y DMP. There were 7 raccoons waiting for us at the food drop and a really young Bald Eagle in the dead tree just over the food drop! Across from the dam, there were 2 Egrets in the trees.Steve and two other boats went by while we were at the dam. We passed a boat fishing at the point of Preston just before we headed behind to the food drop.No Blue Heron except the 4 in flight. Back at the food drop, we had at least 14 furry friends come out of everywhere! Beautiful skies tonight! Docked at 9:30.
We pushed off at 7:30 We passed 2 kyaks by Pontiac and the Pirtae ship and Jerry tied together by DMP. Lots of swallows and Blue Heron on both rivers.We had 7 raccoons and 5 ducks at the food drop. All puppies had a good run and swim. We passed Dave by the GM water plant. Back at Preston, we had at least 11 raccoons come out to eat! Just as we were getting ready to leave, Mike was on the West point of Preston shooting off fireworks, scaring both Boots and Lizzy so we headed home. Docked at 9:35.
Mike added 5 gals of gas. Full boat tonight-Keshia, Smack, Devon, the puppies and us all left at 7:30 with ify skies. Saw a Blue Heron , 3 geese on Lil Gortes and a doe and 2 fawns at Riverside! Lots of Blue Heron out on the Auglaize! At Preston, we had 9 raccoons come out for dinner. Just as we settled in to watch, it started to sprinkle then almost immediately started pouring! We must have been quite the sight, we had three umbrella and still got soaked!! But after all, boating is a wet activity! We even saw a Bald Eagle through the rain in the revine next to DMP! We were home by 8:15!
Mike charged the battery today and added 5 gals of gas. We headed out at 7:15 with stormy skies luming. A Blue Heron on land across from Lil Gortes. We passed 2 boats on the Auglaize. Wind kicked up and temp dropped! Only one raccoon came out from dinner and took off with the whole bag! 😮 We saw a pair of Bald Eagles flying around McFeeter’s and followed one all the way to the big dead tree!! :0 As we pulled into the dam, someone was putting in a ski boat. Lizzy and Sam went snooping with Mike while Boots stayed with me and the boat due to the stormy skies. A few Heron out. The Bald Eagle was still in the big dead tree on the return trip! We saw a deer eating from the fruit trees two doors down from McFeeter’s. We ended up with 9 raccoons for our second food drop. Storm was coming so we headed home early in hopes to squeeze in a campfire. Purple Martins were all over the back side of Preston. We docked at 9:05 but no fire…rain.
Mike added 5 gals of gas and tried to move a big tree from against the boat to the shore. We left at 8:10 and saw 4 ducks on a log between Lil Gortes and land. There were 2 boats by Pontiac. At Preston, we started with none, then one, then three and before long, we had 7 raccoons! Pretty quiet tonight on the river. Puppies all ran but no swimming-gross water. Lots of Blue Heron out. Passed Mike and Jeff just behind Preston. Full moon tonight but hides behind the clouds once in a while. We had 14 cooners back at the food drop! Docked at 9:45 and had campfire with Chuck and Cheri.
We took off at 7:45. Saw a Blue Heron on Lil Gortes and 4 boys at Riverside. Lots of Blue Heron on both rivers! We saw Jerry and another v-bottom by the Second St bridge. At Preston, 7 raccoons were waiting when we pulled up to the food drop. At the big dead tree, we spooked a Bald Eagle and saw him fly away with a big fish! 😮 Puppies all went running and swimming before we headed back up river. Just as we were leaving, Tim pulled up to pull out a ski boat. The water is like glass! Saw Dave just before we went behind Preston. At the food drop, there were 12 furry ones waiting! We docked at 9:40 and had campfire.
Mike added 6 gals of gas before we pushed off at 7:20. A boat right behind us followed us through rock pass. Chilly night tonight, long sleeves required! Lots of Blue Heron on both rivers. Only 2 raccoons came out for dinner. We saw Dave as we came out the far end of Preston. Puppies had a good long run. Beautiful sunset and 3/4 of a moon. On the return trip, lots of Martins behind Preston and 10 raccoons waiting on the bank for us! We went up the Maumee to Jamie’s then turned back and headed for home by moonlight. Docked at 9:55.
No ride last night due to thunderstorms. We were lucky tonight, the storms went through and cleared up just before 7! We pushed off at 7:20 with pizza on board for dinner. Its much cooler and a good breeze. There were 5 Canadian Geese and a Blue Heron on Lil Gortes as we passed through rock pass. The water is up due to all the rain West of us. At Preston, only 1 raccoon came out for dinner but before we left, there were 4. A young Bald Eagle flew just in front of us by the big dead tree! There are lots of Blue Heron all up and down the river. We even saw a lone duck fly out of the dam as we pulled in. All three puppies had a gooooood run and then a swim before heading back. We saw 2 deer hiding in the bushes beside the GM water plant and we had to slow down for a group of 5 duck swimming in front of us under the 281 bridge. Back at Preston, we had 5 furry ones come out which quickly turned into 7! We didn’t stay long, we had to hit the restroom at Pontiac! Puppies got in a quick snoop there too before heading home! Just as we approached Gortes, once again, a raccoon was swimming to the island and we had to slow down to allow it safe passage, although I’m sure the puppies barking made it swim a little faster! What a great night for a cruise, we had a beautiful sunset and then got to come home to the sky lit up by 2/3 of the moon! We docked at 9:45.
Mike had to add another 5 gals of gas after all the fast trips up and down the river! We headed out at 7:15, its cooler thanks to the rain earlier today. A couple of jet skies by Pontiac and a pontoon pulling two tubers by Preston. As we pulled up to the food drop spot, we noticed another Bald Eagle in the dead tree right above it where we usually see the owls!! We feed the raccoons, although worried about their safety, and kept an eye on the Eagle. We watched the 7 (@adults and 5 babies) and the Eagle. The Eagle only moved his head. So, off to the dam. All was quiet at the Ski Club. Puppies all had a good run. While they were running and I was turning the boat around, an Egret flew into the tree across from the dam and was soon followed by a Blue Heron. Back at Preston, we had 9 raccoons come out for dinner. While watching, Life Flight took off and flew over. Then, a v-bottom went by and with Lizzy’s barking at them, she scared off the raccoons! So, we headed up the Maumee to Dave’s before turning back and heading for home. By Gortes, we had to come to a stop for a raccoon swim right in front of the boat. Then, we saw 7 deer, by flashlight, run from Lil Gortes through the muck to land to hide in the trees as we drove thru rock pass! We docked at 9:40.
Mike and I left for the ski club at 5:50. We saw a Blue Heron on Lil Gortes and a turtle across from it on a rock and another on a dead tree in the water across from Mike’s. Lots of algae on both river tonight. We got to the ski club for the reception at 6:10 with my pumpkin pie in hand. The pie quickly disappeared, faster than the rain that fell while we were there! We left at 8 and its very hazy. We saw a doe and two young deer eating grass at Bill’s. We docked at home at 8:20 and Mike ran up to get the puppies. We headed out again at 8:30 with the puppies. We got down to the dam quick because its getting dark due to the storms and the time. All the puppies got out for a snoop and swim. Just as we left the dam, it started to sprinkle and by the time we hit the ski club, it was pouring and the rain was very cold. All three puppies jumped into the front seat! By the time we got to Preston, it was back to sprinkling but we could see lightening. Once on the Auglaize, it all cleared! We docked at 9:30 and had a campfire.
A tough day today, I took Boots to the vet this morning and found out he has Lymph. Cancer and has 3-4 months to live. So we will have to get Boots as much time as we can on the river doing what he loves! We took him on two rides and snoops already today and now its time for his night time cruise! Mike added another 5 gals of gas before we pushed off at 5:50. Between Bill’s and Mike’s, we had a Bald Eagle fly right in front of us! We hadn’t seen any all summer and in two days we have seen 3! We dropped the food bag but nobody came out but its way early. Then, we headed for Sam’s for his son’s Tao’s birthday. Just before the city water plant, a yearling Bald Eagle flew over us! While at Sam’s, the puppies has a blast chasing and barking at the boats driving by! We left at 9:15 and went back to Preston to drop the last food bag, 7 racoons came out to eat. We passed 2 pontoons on the way home. We docked at 10 and had a campfire. Boots will have to have lots of campfire hot dogs over the next few months, which he will love!
