June 30th, 2012

We pushed off at 7:25, its still 98 degrees. We saw a few boats out. At Preston, we saw a tiny raccoon down river from the food drop. Just as we came out on the other side of Preston, the red headed kid was waiting on his jet ski to jump our wake! We saw Herons, Kingfishers, Swallows and Martins. Haven’t seen the vultures. We stopped at the ski club to introduce some more people to Chris and see the new puppies everyone got this spring! We never made it to the dam. Sam had a good time but Lizzy was ready to leave! Back at Preston, mom and 4 babies were eating but quickly disappeared when we arrived only to return after we left. :( We docked at 9:25.

June 29th, 2012

We all headed out at 7:25, its cooler, only 78! A big storm went thru lasting 45 min with high wind and hail. There are a lot of trees down and lots of debris in the water. With the heavy rain and the dryness, the level of the water didn’t raise. At Preston, a lone raccoon was making its with to the food drop as we passed him at the west point. We passed a group from the ski club out skiing and another boat. A Bald Eagle flew over the dam just after we docked. Mike, Chris and puppies and a good run! ( Chris is walking as long as he can hold on to your hands). The have been a few Heron and Kingfishers. Lots of Swallows and Martins and Night Hawks on the ride home.. When we pulled up to drop the second bag, mom and 2 baby raccoons were eating but quickly vanished until we were gone. :( Moon is gorgeous! Mike discovered some holes in the exhaust elbow so we headed home early so he could check it out. Docked at 9:10.

June 28th, 2012

At 5:40 tonight we launched MJ for the summer! We filled her up before putting her in at Pontiac Park. It was the hottest day or the year, 108 degrees! Mike, Sam and Lizzy rode her home while Chris, our 8 month old son, and I took the truck and trailer home. The water is at an all time low, we have had virtually no rain this spring and summer. This part of the country is in the red for drought.

At 7:40, Mike, Sam, Lizzy and I took Christopher out for his first woodie ride! We saw a couple of jet skiers right off the bat. On the Maumee, near Preston, we were blessed to see the Bald Eagle hunting a group of ducks! We dropped the food bag on the south side then circled around to the north side to say hi to part of the ski club crew enjoying the cool water at a sandy spot! After introducing everyone to Chris and chatting for about a half hour, we all piled back into the boat, getting it filthy:) and headed for the dam. Mike and Chris took the puppies for a walk before heading home. (Have to be home earlier because Mike has an earlier start time for work :( ). Across from Graceland, we saw a family of 5 raccoons scouring the bank. We saw no raccoons at either food drop but the bag was gone! We have seen a lot of Kingfishers, swallows, and heron and on the return trip, night hawks. We saw a lone raccoon by the turtle people and a young deer between Lil Gortes and land. We docked at 9:35.

Body found in the river

March 16th, 2012

Shocking news! There was a dead body snagged by some fishermen today. It was found down by the Independence State Park marina where we stop to walk our dogs each night of our woody rides.

Some “Bling” for our Garwood

January 14th, 2012

Stephanie won a package of chrome for our Garwood Ensign on eBay.

We got all these pieces and best of all…
Our Garwood has screw holes for all the new parts…

Correct part? …our boat has screw holes for new one…

Below: an Ensign at AntiqueBoatAmerica.com has the bow chrome and aft vent. It’s listed as number 20 of 650 or so built…

It may also be noted that its panel of gauges is similar to ours…

October 6th, 2011

Chuck, our neighbor came over for a ride while Steph visited his wife, Sheri and some of their kids. Mike, Chuck, and the dogs left the dock at 6:15pm. Still lots of debris, mostly smaller stuff. Not very many animals at all; saw only a few heron and a couple of egrets. Saw 4 other boats out – 2 just riding around and 2 fishing but no one familiar. On the way back as it got dark we ran up over a 40+ foot tree, had to push it out the side with the paddle. Got back to the dock at 8:00pm.

September 26th, 2011

Mike headed out with Smack and Sam at 6:05 after adding 5 gals of gas. They saw the pirate ship and 2 other boats. At Preston, nobody showed up for the first drop. The trees have really started to turn red and yellow. This is probably my last ride til after my due date (getting hard to get up the hill!) We had 6 raccoons come out for the second drop, nobody was at the first. We docked at 8:30.

We passed a pontoon by McFeeter’s. The puppies had a good run at the dam. Back at Preston, the first bag was still there! We dropped the 2nd bag and quickly, 9 raccoons appeared to eat! :) There were Heron everywhere and lots of swallows above Preston. We docked at 8:20.

September 15th, 2011

Mike put in new spark plugs and something to clean out the cylinders and added 5 gals of gas. We left at 4:05, its cold…high was 60 today and cloudy. We went up the Maumee to Dave’s before we turned back and headed for the dam. We saw lots of Heron, Kingfishers, 3 Egrets, a Bald Eagle and 2-300 geese! Puppies had a good run. We docked at 5:50.

We docked at 8:40.

September 11th, 2011

We pushed off at 7:00, the water is still pretty high. Saw the Pirate Ship and one other pontoon out. There were lots of Blue Heron behind Preston, we dropped the food bag and waited while Mike changed the spark plugs but nobody came. :( We saw a few other heron but they are all high in the trees. There were 6 Egrets in the trees 1/2 way down between the dam docks and the actual dam. Puppies all had a good run and a soak in the river! Full moon out tonight. September 10th, 2011

We headed out at 1:40 today due to incoming storms. The river is still up and even more debris coming down. We went up the Maumee to the Clinton St bridge so the puppies could bark at all the dogs participating in “Strut Your Mutt!” Then, we turned back for the dam. Across from McFeeter’s, we stopped and watched a Bald Eagle in a tree! The puppies all had a good run at the dam. We have seen lots of  Heron, Kingfishers and ducks today.
