Welcome to our website...

Marilyn J is our vintage 1951 Chris-Craft. She is a fully restored classic woodie...
She's an 18' Riviera, restored and maintained by Mike & Stephanie Sindel. (with Boots, Sam & Daisy too...) Unlike many wooden boats restored for show, our Riviera spends most of her summer on the Auglaize River behind our home. She stays in the water all summer and we all go on boat rides almost every day (weather permitting usually...)

Though our boat get plenty of use, we still like to keep her looking her best and always running top notch. It takes lots of work, but it is well worth all the efforts to maintain her beauty and originality. It's been an exciting experience to undergo and learning about these old classic boats is also quite interesting; just to think what those oldtimer of 30s, 20s or even those eariler were thinking at the time... Crazy.

Her History

Our boat was a rotten mess when we found her...
Her "History" is our record of:

  • finding her rotting away in a farmers field
  • our research to identify her original construction
  • a little on the engine's restoration
  • a brief summary of the wood's restoration
  • her first time in the water...

The "Gallery" contains all the pictures of our Mahogany Chris-Craft Riviera, our latest find - 16' Garwood Ensign, and other beautiful antique and classic wooden boats we've encountered while "researching" at various boat shows.

Our "ShopNotes" are a record of what we do to maintain our boat each season. We've discovered that every spring we spend days re-looking up articles and going through our notes to figure out just what to do and the order to do everything in. So, we put together this website... We have commented on what works for us and what doesn't based on our own experiences. Ramblings include wood preparation, our varnishing method, engine tips, wishlist for next season, etc...

"References" is our archive of everything "Chris-Craft" related that we've found, borrowed, or made. There are various boat and engine manuals, wiring diagrams, service bulletins, etc...

"Cruise Log" has evolved over the years to become our Boat-Log of what we encounter on our journey into antique & classic boating...

"Links" go to a few other websites with more information about wooden boats, some suppiers that we use, sites of places we take our boat, and a few cool personal pages with wooden boats.

Our "Contact" information and an online form have been provided so that you can ask questions or make comments...

Thank you for visiting.
